I passed an elderly woman sitting on a bench outside her flat (I'm guessing), today. She was beaming like a little girl with news.

'Lovely day, isn't it?' I said.

'Mmm.' she said, 'Hope it rains soon.'

'It might.'

'I hope so.' Her hands clasped together, her eyes twinkled. If she could have dangled her legs under the seat, I'm sure she would have.

Happiness IS a state of mind and this woman is proof to me that age is just as flexible.

Having spent a fair bit of time around elderly folk, I wonder whether the lady said that because she anticipated watching me and my groceries getting drenched further down the road. If so, good for her - nothing like having the imagination to crack yourself up.

I rated my life the other day.

Take the Rate My Life Quiz

You've got to try this out. When I was a kid, I used to fill out these things to achieve the best results. No fear of that having happened here! So I'm a grown up now, maybe.

  • "Your love score of zero really affected your average." - cut and pasted from one of the comments on *my* blog. Ground breaking analysis there.

  • When your results clicked over, did you get a dating ad flashing at you? That, I thought, was pretty funny.

And how is it that they ask you to comment on how you got a high score in one area when it would have been so much more amusing if they'd questioned the 'other outstanding result'?

Maybe the Nottingham Forest adventure holds the answers. Were you also a cynical realist with a mysterious hurtful past?!

The money I could have saved instead of throwing it away on therapy...

  • I dont remember regd any dating ads... but do remember being asked about my finances.
Dangerous to read Robin Hood results. I've been surprised a few times at some of my friends' sequence. Mine might have been just as shocking to them. But then it does say "You are essentially a contented person, even if you consider yourself a little superior." which explains everything.

  • Came across this quote... thought it was amusing.
Good judgment comes from bad experience, and a lot of that comes from bad judgment.
No hurtful past for me. Just numb from the experience. Mysterious numbness, mind you.

  • and whatever you do, 'don't squat with your spurs on'!

There's a lot of good sense in humour, my mysteriously numb friend of contented and slightly superior nature.

And most humour comes from sharing some experience of good or bad judgement.

But is that good or bad humour?

By Blogger Husky Nutmeg, at 6:11 am

  • The *one* time I rode a horse, the horse started galloping. Most harrowing experience of my life. I didnt have spurs though.
And regd humour, one could take the abstract approach, and leave the punch line to the receipient, eg. like now.

  • Based on your writing style, I would very much like to read what you write. I will be honest but diplomatic, but can also be shallow and polite if you like.

By Blogger Chai, at 12:02 am

  • Honest and diplomatic would be just fine although I wouldn't mind shallow and polite every now and then - say the third Tuesday of each month.

    Oh and on Thursday afternoons.

I enjoy what you write - it's been inspiring and entertaining - and that is my honest Wednesday morning opinion.

  • Cool... it's a deal...
Inspiring? Ooooh... now you're skirting on the edges of believability, there.
Off topic, my pen friend from wayyyyy back sent me this link. It's to a Sufjan Stevens project and has a link to his song.

Maybe you will like, if you like soft and gentle.

  • Ahhh... when you said Laura Veir's song inspired you to write something, you meant for your blog (maybe). I thought you meant for another "writing" project. Hence my offer.

By Blogger Chai, at 7:55 am

  • You're a legend. That Sufjan Stevens project was just what I needed to hear yesterday. I've been working on a community project which is relatively similar but by the time I finished working on it last weekend I'd lost the 'why' focus and it all seemed a bit stale to me.

I'm presenting it today so thankyou thankyou thankyou because I have the motivation again.

Not trying to sound melodramatic - just been a bit flat lately.

Apart from all of that - the music was beautiful.

By Blogger Husky Nutmeg, at 7:43 am

  • If you liked that song and have gotten sick of it, there is another one of his that is interesting. Click on the picture of the clown on my blog. Not sure what inspiration that one will provide :-)

  • An amazing story teller isn't he?

I'm writing this weekend - slowing everything down - I've been writing a lot of drivel lately. Got to get to the essence of the story and tell it without *the noise*.

    That's the inspiration for me.

Have a great weekend Chai, you're a gift.
